Every 21st century improviser or composer has to sort through countless different kinds of music, each with its own approach to harmony and melody. The range is bewildering; almost every day we hear modal, diatonic, chromatic, polytonal, microtonal and atonal music. The challenge to deeply connect with any musical language and use it develop an individual style can be an amazing adventure.
This is an intensive workshop for musicians who want to both deepen and expand their musical resources by exploring hands-on how tension/release and dissonance/consonance work in different harmonic and melodic contexts. The workshop is being led by Tcha Limberger and Alan Bern, two 21st century musicians known for both fluency and personal style in many different musical languages.
